Garment Care & Maintenance

Keep Your Clothes In a Good Shape

CARE CONSCIOUSLY FOR WHAT YOU LOVE

There are some tips for the correct and environmentally friendly care of your garments, which makes them look like new for a long time and protect the environment.

WASH COLD

Wash your clothes with cold water.
Hot water wears out fabrics very quickly by breaking up the fibres that make them losing shape and brightness of colours.
By washing with cold water, your clothes will be just as clean, it saves energy and goes easy on the garment fibres. Your clothes will look like new for a long time.

NO CHLORINE

Do not use chlorine bleach.
Vinegar is a natural brightener that does not damage the fibres of your clothes and bleaches them gently and organically.

THE RIGHT DETERGENT

You should never use too much detergent because too much foam means that soap residues remain in the garment. This is not good for your clothing, neither for your skin, which the garments come in contact.

LINE DRY

Do not tumble dry. That can shrink your clothes, weaken the material fibres and let fade the colours. Drying on a line protects your clothes and saves a lot of greenhouse gases.

SUSTAINABLE DRY CLEANERS

If you need to take certain items of clothing for dry cleaning, then search for an eco-friendly one. Nowadays, some dry cleaner offers the CO2-cleaning, an environmentally friendly alternative that uses water as the primary solvent and reduces CO2 emission and toxicity.

TEXTILE STORAGE

Clean your clothes before storing. Invisible stains from transparent substances such as body oils, sugary substances or sweat can become visible after a time due to oxidation and transform to brown and yellow stains. These can be very difficult to remove and may require the use of toxic stain lifter.
It is better to use well-shaped and possibly padded hangers, especially for garments made of delicate fabrics. In this way, your garments do not deform, and the shoulders do not expand.
Your garments should have room to breathe in the closet, so do not hang your wardrobe to full.
It would be best if you also avoid to use plastic bags for your clothes and choose bags made of cotton. That is not only better for the environment but also your clothes. Plastic can trap moisture and mould, and it can break and react with the clothing fibres over time.
